It makes perfect sense for Joe to come along too for the check-up; although it's something Sid could easily do on his own it will still only be the second time he and Don have met and interacted. It's unfair to expect Don to be able to relax around him completely, no matter how caring and considerate Sid is. And when Don squeezes his hand it seems to be encouraging him to answer in the affirmative.

"I will," Joe says, curling his fingers around Don's hand to squeeze it back. "It'll be nice to see you again."

That's about as enthusiastic as Joe can get in front of other people, but he still expects Sid will notice it. He doesn't say things like that as empty gestures. Don is just so sweet, so open, and his eyes are honest. Perhaps this is what it means to be a purebred; you don't have to hide how you really feel about things, because you have a pedigree. Maybe humans accept more when you have good breeding.

Still it isn't Don's fault he was born that way. And pure bloodlines or not it doesn't mean you don't get scared just like everyone else does. Don't purebreds usually lead quite sheltered lives? Don doesn't have that scent about him of a catperson who is outside a whole lot; the keen sense of adventure, or the constant need to expand your territory.

"Everything will be alright," he adds. He thinks Don could do with that sort of reassurance. And with Joe (and Sid, and well, probably Marvelous too) around him, it's the truth.
